The Rhino boats are fabricated primarily for use in the offshore and marine construction environments, the off-shore oil and gas industry, and for military use.
Rhino boats have been developed as a replacement to conventional RIB’s and have virtually indestructible HDPE hulls that are specifically designed to handle in tough commercial environments.

Rhino boats can be used for various applications, but our boats are primarily used as work boats, personnel transfer boats and scuba replacement boats (SRP). Our boats are supplied with petrol outboards or inboard diesel motors and our inboard versions can be supplied with water jet drive or Z-drive (stern drive) systems.

Rhino Boats Fabrication

Our Rhino boat designs are created using Autodesk Inventor computer software which results in scaled three dimensional models. Once a model is completed in Autodesk Inventor we will then consult our naval architects which use specialised software to conduct various calculations and tests to ensure the boat fabricated based on the 3D design will perform in reality as per the requirements of its determined operation. Once we are satisfied that the design is sound we will then convert the 3D Drawing into a detailed set of 2D Autocad fabrication drawings which comprises of each and every part required to assemble the boat.
2D Autocad fabrication drawings are programmed into the computer of our CNC cutting machine which will then cut out all the parts required for fabricating the boat from HDPE plate. The pontoon piping is placed in a specially fabricate jig and then the pipe sections are extrusion welded together. Once the pontoon structure has been welded together, the bulkhead frames, transom, deck and all parts of the HDPE super-structure are prepped and HDPE welded together to create our Rhino boat hulls.

The three main types of HDPE welding are Butt Welding, Tack Welding and Extrusion Welding. In our fabrication process, we mostly used tack and extrusion welding. The tack welding is used predominantly for tacking parts into position which will then be extrusion welded to create the final symbiosis of the boats parts. All welds are prepared with a roughened V-mitre. The HDPE extrusion welding machine comprises of a nozzle that blows hot air to melt the parent material at the V-mitre and simultaneously a worm of molten plastic is extruded into the V-mitre weld prep to create an extremely strong bond.

We have developed a stringent quality control procedure involving various checks throughout the fabrication process. In fabrication, our personnel are required to follow a set of QC documents which need to be signed off by the responsible person. Only once the responsible person has conducted the necessary checks and signed of at specific milestones in the fabrication process cam the next step of fabrication commence. Our QC plan includes checks and signed documentation for parts and dimensional checks, weld prep & procedural checks, load tests on lifting points, and pressure tests on sealed compartments in the hull.
Other than stainless steel and aluminium parts of the super-structure, our boat hulls are solely fabricated from HDPE. This allows for easy repair boat where plastic welding equipment is available. We offer welding equipment and training to our clients which allows for them to carry out repairs and/or additions to the boats on site with much ease. In cases when our clients do not own plastic welding equipment, we offer a service whereby we would travel to site (in many cases offshore) with our equipment and carry out the necessary repairs and/ or additions. The nature of HDPE results in our boat hull requiring very little, if any, maintenance at all. Maintenance of motors and electronics is prescribed as pertaining to the specific models of motors supplied with the boat.
